I Think I’ve Been Ripped Off

Hi, everyone!  I’m just back from the Country Living Fair in NY and am trying to regroup and get some energy back. It was quite a trip – a good one.

But I quickly wanted to share something with you.

I was gobsmacked yesterday when I saw not one but TWO wreaths on Ebay that look like direct rip-offs of mine. First picture is mine (these are not new ones, by the way), 2nd picture is this other person’s. The similarities are just too close to be coincidental as far as I am concerned. What do you think?

This is incredibly disheartening to me since I always expect people to be honorable and honest. I guess I live in a fairy tale world.

I have heard from the seller on Ebay: “My apologies! I have removed them.”

Good. Case Closed (I hope).

  1. I agree with you…you were “knocked off.” If it’s any consolation…your creations are prettier, much more detailed, the colors are more vivid AND yours is the original!

  4. Cackie, the knock-off wreaths are definitely copies, but the quality is so far inferior that no one who admires your work would even consider buying the others. It is outrageous that anyone would be so lacking in scruples or creativity as to copy an artist’s work, but they only serve to emphasize the excellence of yours.

  5. Unfortunately, your fabulous creative designs are so different that they are ripe for ripoffs especially with social media such as Facebook and Pinterest. It is such a shame even though you can tell that yours are more detailed and nicer. Perhaps there is a way to protect the designs? This situation has been a problem for crafters for many years. Even on Etsy, you see many versions of the same thing.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment and I appreciate your nice compliments a lot. It’s hard to know what to do…I mean I try to watermark everything and the metadata is marked with my copyright. On the one hand being imitated is actually flattering but, on the other hand, it is very depressing that someone would actually do it for profit. Cackie

    By the way, to use a string of wooden “cranberry” beads is completely unclear on the concept. Shameful. You are the one and only.

  9. Wow – that is just too much. They really did try to get it to the letter. Yours have a better composition & flow, the copied wreaths are “stiff looking” – and are obvious copies. I have been an admirer of yours for awhile. Your look is your own for sure!. I also make vintage wreaths- but my style is different – more Farmhouse & rustic. My base is a greenery wreath, stuffed with tinsel. I haven’t ever listed mine on Etsy because I didn’t want to be copied. We also do some other fun vintage things – and I have been copied on those at a local show, so I guess those folks are everywhere. Keep up the amazing work, it is fun to see what other vintage Christmas artists are doing! My FB page is Vintage Country – you can see our pieces there.
