A hurried post just to show you teasers of three more wreaths that will be traveling with me to the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck next week.
Here is a peek at a portion of HOT FLASH. You saw its beginning in my last post. The celluloid deer is 13″ tall just to give you an idea of the scale. Hot pinks, golds, and greens are the main players in the color scheme.
This stunner is ITALIAN GOLD. It is all tones of rich gold with a couple of pops of red as accent. It features a large Italian angel from the 1970’s as its centerpiece, and also has a Fontanini cherub, a ball with a nativity scene, and other assorted other riches.
And, finally, here is ELF MAGIC. A paean to mid-century delights for those of you happily stuck in memories of our collective childhoods.
Today, I hope to spend time working on my Europe trip photographs to see what might be worthy of printing and taking to the Fair. See you later!

Hi Cackie. I am one of your biggest vintage wreath fans and get my inspiration from your work. I commented on one of your posts last week that I too make vintage wreaths but nothing on the scale or artistry of your wreaths. I am going to be bold here and ask if you don’t mind sharing a couple of pointers, please. I promise you that I will not interfere with your wreath business as I mostly make my wreaths for pleasure and to give to family members. So here goes.
Do you use styrofoam forms and completely wrap it with tinsel garland? I always use styrofoam forms and on some wreaths I cut garland and add it in spots because I was thinking that it would be hard to get the ornaments to stick safely on the form wrapped with the garland. But somehow you make it work? And my last question is how do your wreaths hang? I typically loop a ribbon at the top in the early stage but there are times that I just don’t want a ribbon.
I really appreciate any tips you can give me and again I promise I am no competition for your work.

Dear Monica –
Since you asked so nicely, I am happy to share the answers to your questions. For anybody who makes these, it is a matter of trial and error. I do wrap the entire wreath form (extruded styrofoam) in the garland. That gives a good base for the ornaments to adhere to, gives the wreath some luminance in the in-between spots, and the wreath looks good from the back as well. I make a hanging loop from a pipe cleaner. First I wrap some floral wire around the form and put the pipe cleaner under it to hold it really secure. Then I just make a loop with the pipe cleaner – easy peasy. I prefer for the loop not to show when hung, but you can add a ribbon if you like. Hope this helps, Cackie

Cackie, I’m hoping these pics post correctly. I like making victorian and shabby chic wreaths along with some vintage wreaths.
The shabby chic has a mix of new and vintage ornaments. I made this for my sister in law using some of her ornaments, pearl garland and wreath that she used years ago on her Christmas tree and some of my ornament finds. My favorite are the green with the stars.
